2022-04-22 Beekeeping Circle
One came to see the University of Agriculture and Technology beekeeping circle that is active on the Fuchu campus!
First, check the honey bee nest.
Take out each nest frame from the hive and check how many larvae there are.
The third photo is a beehive.
The part with the lid on is where the next pupa will be born.
The strangely shaped nest in the fourth photo is ``Odai.''
If you put the larvae in a place that looks like an upside-down orange cup, the worker bees will form a crown.
The bee born here is the queen bee.
A new queen bee is born and the colony grows, causing the colony to grow.
In the 5th and 6th photos, a fire is lit near the hive and the smoke is emitted to calm the honey bees.
On the other hand, Japanese honeybees seem to get angry if you spray them with smoke.
The 9th photo shows a Japanese bee cleaning the hive.
The wooden box on the left side of the photo is a birdhouse.
As they gnaw away at old nests, they collect sawdust-like bits of nest material under the nest box.
If this is left alone, a moth called the honeycomb moth will lay eggs, and the resulting larvae will eat the honeycomb.
Everyone in the beekeeping circle cleans the bees once a week and protects them from the beetle moth.
In the 10th photo, the student is holding pollen, which is food for bumblebees.
This bee is one that is active in pollinating the vegetables and fruits grown in the greenhouse on the farm.
The appeal of beekeeping, according to the student representative of the club, is the cuteness of the bees!

A dog who works hard and collects about a teaspoon of honey in his lifetime.
